Dress for Women, a loose adaptation of the play La leyenda de Georgia McBride, is a theatrical comedy that tells the story of Casey, a young artist and Elvis Presley impersonator who works in a rundown bar in Florida. His career is not going well: the audience has lost interest in his show. Casey and his wife Jo are facing financial problems, and right in the middle of this situation, they discover that she is pregnant. Everything changes unexpectedly when the bar owner, in search of attracting more clientele, decides to replace the Elvis shows with a drag performance. One night, one of the "drags" cannot go on stage, and Casey is forced—or rather thrown—literally—to perform in her place; dress, wig, makeup, and heels included. Although he initially feels uncomfortable, Casey discovers a talent and confidence he has never had, reinventing himself as his new stage persona: "Georgia McBride." On the other hand, the shame and fear of what others will say lead Casey to hide the truth from Jo about the real source of the money that has been getting them out of trouble. Through humor, music, and the sparkle of drag, the play explores themes such as identity, acceptance, masculinity, and the search for the self. It is a funny and moving story about personal transformation and the liberating power of art and authenticity.
